I created Perseverance, to demonstrate the huge obstacles that prohibit many from continuing on with life in general, but one must not give up, one must rise up against all odds, I applied this to my life as I intend to rise above the odds holding me back from my dream of getting a college diploma. To get my meaning across I took inspiration from Elizabeth Catlett’s Black Unity, as it features a clenched fist a symbol of rejection towards oppression. I also took inspiration from Salvador Dali’s The Persistence of Memory to create unity to my piece and give it an artistic tone. The medium of the piece is dry point printing, I made the design and engraved it unto a store bought plastic template.
